A simple and low-cost equilateral prism is placed in the path of a laser line. The prism breaks the divergent Gaussian beam into two sub beams, transposes the two sub beams and partially overlaps them. The overlapped beams form a flattop laser line with clean edges. The performance of this proposed method appears to be better than the currently used Powell lens method.
