This letter proposes a new approach to realize a metallic Luneburg lens multibeam antenna with designable beams at 140 GHz, which is fed by multiple rectangular waveguides. The beam shape can be controlled by shifting the feeding position, which is based on the transformation between focusing and defocusing state. According to the above method, the whole coverage range and the overlapping level of the adjacent beams are both flexibly designable. The theoretical analysis and experimental realization of this antenna are conducted at the 140 GHz band. The prototypes are fabricated with high-precision 3-D printing and gold-sputtering techniques. The measured results verify the beam’s designability and feasibility in terahertz band. Under this theoretical framework, the beam coverage strategy can be flexibly adjusted to meet different requirements of terahertz communication.
