We present an inverse design method for local tailoring of the characteristic properties of optical beams, including the formation of subwavelength features in the transverse plane. Our proposed technique is based on the superposition of either paraxial or non-paraxial Laguerre-Gaussian beams, that generate the desirable optical fields. This versatile method enables the precise control over amplitude and phase profiles, providing thus new potential applications in wavefront shaping and imaging.
