Optical constants of nontransparent materials from reflectance and Brillouin spectroscopic data

A method is presented to determine the refractive index and extinction coefficient of a nontransparent material at a single wavelength using raw reflectance and Brillouin spectroscopy data. The method was validated for crystalline silicon and germanium, and the high-temperature superconductor Bi-2212.
