Quasi phase matching using frozen waves without periodic poling

In this article, we show that quasi-phase matching can be accomplished by manipulating one of the pump beams without any periodic poling. We analyze the simple case where one of the interacting beams have a periodic pattern and the others are assumed to be plane waves. We present comparisons of the efficiency of some nonlinear processes with quasi-phase matching achieved through our method and the conventional method. We demonstrate that some patterns of the pump beam can be more efficient than conventional periodic poling.
